ARTIST STATEMENT

Laura Haro Strohbusch has always had an inclination towards creation and documentation and most recently uses her creative practice in a meditative manner as a way to calm her nervous system. After a breast cancer diagnosis rocked her world and sense of control over her life she found she can better understand her emotions by channeling their expression through art. Her favorite mediums include drawing (neurographic art in particular), collage, writing, photography, the occasional painting and her newest creative endeavor is making music with her partner under their band Novios de Venus as a way to process their experiences as a couple navigating life before and after cancer. She believes art and creativity are intrinsically part of the human experience and can be used as a tool for self liberation through the rebellious joy of creative expression. She is a lover of magical realism and tries to imbue a sense of whimsy and magic in her art, especially when dealing with heavy emotions she finds the creative process can alchemize those emotions to gold.
